Investment portrait of Kiev region

Industry

Main indices of the Kiev region’s social and economic development grew over the last year. In particular, industrial enterprises output was approximately UAH 8,000 mn (17.6% more than in 2004). Production volumes increased in all kinds of industrial activities, except for in the generation and distribution of electric energy. Rates of agricultural produce also increased and made up UAH 4,279 mn (105.6%). Turnover of retail trade amounted to UAH 5,126.4 mn with a 22.0% growth rate. Freight and passenger turnover by road transport was 1,093.7 mn ton/km and 1,146.4 mn passenger/km.

Foreign economic trade

According to the regional statistics department, the share of Kiev region in the total volume of Ukraine’s foreign trade in goods was 2.9% over 2005 (1.5% in export and 4.3% in import). The volume of foreign trade in commodities was USD 2,040.4 mn (16.3% more than in 2004). Export value increased by 2.2% and imports by 30.3% making USD 496.0 mn and USD 1,544.4 mn respectively.

Companies in the region entered into foreign trade with partners from 127 countries of the world over the period under review.

The Russian Federation remains the largest trade partner for the region. Relations with this country amounted to 31.3% of the total foreign trade turnover. The volume of commodity export to Russia increased by 10.3% and import – by 8.2% when compared with 2004. A negative balance of foreign trade in commodities constituted USD 172.2 mn.

The largest export deliveries were destined to the Russian Federation (37.6% of the total export), Germany – 6.4%, Poland – 5.7%, Belarus – 5.1%, Moldova – 4.1%, Kazakhstan – 4.0%, and Turkey – 3.4%.

Deliveries of polymeric materials, plastics, and articles (16.5%), timber and articles (15.3%), different foods (8.9%), production from the chemical industry (7.8%), and electric and mechanical machines and equipment (7.1%) were staples of the regional export commodity pattern. The export of polymeric materials, plastics, and articles, as well as timber and articles increased significantly in the total volume of exports when compared with the figures from 2004. On the contrary, the share of chemical industry articles decreased.

The largest import deliveries originated from the Russian Federation (24.9% of the total import deliveries), Germany (12.1%), Poland (7.3%), France (6.2%), China (5.7%), Belarus (4.8%), the Netherlands (3.5%), Italy (2.8%), Finland (2.8%), Japan (2.8%), Hungary (2.5%), and the USA (2.2%).

Electric and mechanical equipment (21.3%), output of chemical industry (15.7%), polymeric materials, plastics, and caoutchouc (12.8%), timber and articles (10.5%), different foodstuffs (8.4%), non-precious metals and articles (8.3%), textile and articles (5.1%), mineral products (5.0%), as well as vehicles and road equipment (4.9%) make the basis of import deliveries. The share of electric and mechanical equipment, as well as chemical industry articles has increased significantly against the figures from 2004. The share of mineral products curtailed.

The share of toll operations in the total volumes of export and import was small.

The largest share of exports in the regional was in following towns and regions: Belaya Tserkov (27.3%), Fastov (7.5%), Borispol (6.2%), Brovary (4.1%), and Obukhov (11.3%), Vyshgorod (10.6%), Kievo-Svyatoshin (5.4%), Vasilkov (5.1%), and Mironovka (3.6%) districts.

The largest share of import was in the following towns and regions: Brovary (11.5%), Belaya Tserkov (9.9%), Borispol (9.0%), Fastov (7.5%), and Kievo-Svyatoshin (17.6%), Vyshgorod (7.6%), Obukhov (4.9%), Vasilkov (3.3%), and Mironovka (2.9%) districts.
